Events & Community

A bookstore is a neighborhood project

Being a positive part of our community is important to us. If we can help, we will.

In-Store Events

We host a variety of events throughout the year — author visits, signings, and benefits for organizations like Head Start Early Education, Lincoln's Little Free Libraries, and Lincoln High School Theatre. Call or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for what's coming up next.

Thank You Thursday

We contribute a percentage of each Thursday's sales to an organization doing good work in our community. Our current recipient is OutNebraska. Your group doesn't need 501(c)(3) status to qualify — get in touch with your mission statement, the population you serve, and how you're funded.

Kids' Reading Accounts

Our $22 Book Bag Care Packages for Kids are reusable totes with 3–5 books, a “Fantastic Reader” pencil, an “Open Books, Open Minds” sticker, buttons featuring our cats, bookmarks, a honey straw from local Valhalla Bee Farm, and a handwritten note from our cats. Customers asked to buy bags for kids in need, so we created the Kids' Account — give whatever amount feels right.

Teachers, Schools & Libraries

Teachers get a standing 15% discount on all books, for classroom or personal use, and schools and libraries do too. Send us your list of titles or subjects and we'll assemble a collection for you to consider. We'll pay for your parking in the garage across the street, take purchase orders, and help you carry everything to your vehicle.

Books & Bottles Parties

One evening each month we host a private book-buying party for 10–20 people, 6:30–8:00pm. Reservations go on sale each January, first come first serve in person or by phone, with a flat $50 non-refundable reservation fee. Party dates are announced about two weeks before the reservation sale.

Youth Writing Contest

Funded by a surprise donation from a book club whose members live as far away as New York City and Germany, our contest awards young writers ages 7–22 for short fiction under 1,000 words with a bookstore connection. Past winners were published in a chapbook, with proceeds supporting Youth Programming at Lincoln City Libraries.

Project O Street

Follow the Dorothy Map

Downtown Lincoln is being upgraded with new lighting, landscaping, sidewalks and streets. Wonderful in the long run — a bit of a maze right now.

Avoid all the construction by following our Dorothy Map, and pick up your “Wizard of O St” Adventure Card at any shop in our building. There's no place like a bookstore.

Not sure where to park? Call us at (402) 475-8663 and we'll talk you in.
